A WINNING WARLOCK - MAGIC AT THE BEVERLY WILSHIRE HOTEL

 The magician Ivan Amodei performs close-up tricks with cards and small props (these include pins, candy mints, and scrabble tiles) for an intimate and participatory audience of about thirty in a posh room accompanied by a cellist in a red evening gown.
Mr. Amodei is not the silent sort of illusionist; he is constantly talking, and is consistently funny, with a light touch. No incantations here -- just stuff that he rightly says will “freak you out!” You leave and try to deduce with your fellow guests, ranging from enchanted couples to delighted kids, how he did this and that and admire the pace of his patter.
Mr. Amodei’s website sets forth endorsements from other celebs as varied as twitter king Ashton Kutcher and curmudgeon Larry David, and from corporations like Apple and Disney.
He is that good.
