Developmentally disabled children are invited to attend a cooking workshop and fundraiser, Friday, April 2, 2010 at 5 p.m. at the Young Chefs Academy at 514 W. 1st St. Claremont in observance of World Autism Awareness Day.
Families are invited from throughout Southern California, including Orange County, Glendale, Pasadena, Los Angeles, the Inland Empire, Riverside, Corona, and the San Gabriel Valley.
The event will include a cooking workshop, touch and smell stations designed for kids with sensory issues, a video game truck, and guest speakers for the parents, including Phillip Hain, the Autism Speaks LA Chapter Executive Director.
Some special needs kids have allergic dietary restrictions and the workshop exposes participants to new foods in a fun setting.
All proceeds from the event go to the autism nonprofit Autism Speaks. It is free for families with special needs to attend. Businesses or individuals may sponsor a child for $35.
Last year, the event raised $1115 for Autism Speaks, with 35 autistic children and their families participating ranging in age from 2-29.
