Amelia Earhart , a resident of North Hollywood, disappeared in 1937 attempting an around-the-world flight. A statue, made of steel and fiberglass by local sculptor Ernest Shelton, was placed in the North Hollywood park in 1971. The North Hollywood Library Branch (built in 1928) was renamed in 1981 to honor the famous aviator. Both the library and the statue have been recently restored. North Hollywood Park, located along Tujunga Ave on either side of Magnolia, is a pleasant stop for a shady picnic in the park. The library is in the background of the photograph below of the restored, now bronze, statue.
