The Craft & Folk Art Museum pioneered recognition in the Los Angeles area of the aesthetic and cultural merit of traditional arts and contemporary crafts. It was one of the first museums in the country to see that the bringing together of folk and craft arts could serve as an invigorating stimulus for innovation in contemporary crafts. The Museum, founded in 1965 by Edith and Frank Wyle as The Egg and the Eye, is known for exhibitions celebrating the traditional arts of the diverse ethnic communities which make up Los Angeles and the transformations occurring internationally in the arts of contemporary craft and design.
