FRIDAY FUNNIES
By Eye Spy LA Editor
01/22/2005

Let me preface this with my credentials for judging comedy goodness. I have a highly sensitive, but perhaps somewhat indiscriminate funnybone. When I was a kid my family loved to make me laugh and all they had to do to accomplish that was say the magic word. They usually said that magic word immediately after dinner, while we were still sitting stuffed at the table, and it would send me into a fit of side splitting hold onto your gut painful laughter. Today this would be called child abuse. But highly amusing for them then. The magic word was "laugh" and like one of Pavlov's dogs I never failed to respond to this simple command.

Friday night I ventured out to the premier performance of "Scott's Search for a Rose" at the Improv Olympic in Hollywood. Scott Rose, a computer geek and spokesperson for Apple in real life, tells about his by the book search for a soulmate in this one-man show (only a true geek would think there's a manual for this sort of thing). And he needs your help. An amusing comedy confection just in time to get you in the mood for Valentine's Day. $10 buys a ticket to this show and whatever else is playing that night (continues Friday nights at 8pm through Feb.25). The Improv Olympic West has a bar, is located in close proximity to other dining and nightlife, and is transportation friendly - take the Red Line to Hollywood & Vine or valet parking is available on Cosmo street. Plenty of other lots in the area also charging around $10. They offer comedy shows 7 nights a week.

Check here for current Comedy listings for the greater Los Angeles area.

Comedy clubs are one of the better entertainment values around town. What's your favorite?
